DENVER (KKTV) – Gov. Jared Polis announced a series of health care reforms Tuesday, specifically for health insurance.
The state will be expanding individual and small group benefits, include coverage for mental health exams and substance abuse help, and in 2023 will cover gender-affirming care, including gender-reforming surgery.
“All LGBTQ should be able to get health care without discrimination,” said Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, who joined Polis for Tuesday’s news conference.
The governor was also joined by Colorado Division of Insurance Commissioner Mike Conway; Dr. Ellen Montz, deputy administrator for CMS and director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight; state Sen. Brittany Pettersen; and Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera.
Insurance will also help fight the ongoing opioid crisis plaguing many states.
