Over the next few weeks, I will tell you about my story and what has led up to this outstanding opportunity to move Colorado forward as your governor. You’ll hear about everything from launching a company in my college dorm room to building a school for homeless youth, and working with President Barack Obama to rein in Wall Street and provide healthcare for millions of Americans. I hope you enjoy!
Like many other families, Bertha and Mendel Polis crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the early 20th century seeking freedom, economic opportunity, and an escape from religious discrimination. Their story is one that has been passed down through the generations. My family was fortunate to come to a nation that embraced immigrants and refugees.

A few years later (ok decades!), my folks met at a college mixer, eventually got married, and started heading west. They settled in Colorado shortly afterwards (can you blame them?). My dad was a physicist and my mom was a school teacher; but after they moved here, they decided to pursue their true passions: art and poetry.
Hi Mom! Hi Dad!
I was born here in Colorado in 1975. I spent a lot of my childhood exploring the outdoors (skiing, hiking, and playing baseball) and during the summer as a kid I would crisscross the country with my parents, staying in motels and selling posters out of their pickup truck. These trips gave me the opportunity to recognize the uniqueness of Colorado and provided me with perspective on what it takes to start/manage a company of your own (tune in for more on this in our next email).

I was fortunate to grow up in a state with a supportive community, access to the amazing outdoors, and a place that values those who start a business. Colorado is a special place. And with Washington failing on so many critical issues, it’s up to us to take bold action here in Colorado to preserve our way of life and lead the way into the future.
That’s why I’m running for governor.
