Fighting For You: Conservation

Coloradans have spoken loud and clear. We’re going to stand up to the Trump administration and protect our public lands and Colorado way of life. I am proud to have the plan to get it done.

Continental Divide Recreation, Wilderness, and Camp Hale Act

Jared and his office has worked alongside Conservation Colorado for nearly a decade to build a broad coalition of support to introduce the Continental Divide Wilderness Act. This bill would designate over 90,000 acres of wilderness in the high country and honor the legacy of the Army’s 10th Mountain Division.

Founded the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition

In January 2009, Jared helped found the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) after his first election and is Vice-Chair. SEEC is a key green voice in Congress and leads the fight against climate change with innovative clean energy and conservation policies.

Fought to Lower Carbon Emissions by Voting for Cap and Trade

Jared cast a proud vote for H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act. Reducing our carbon emissions will protect our national security, create jobs, and protect our environment. Jared will fight to account for the costs of carbon here in Colorado as governor.

Investment in Clean Energy Projects

Jared introduced H.R. 2217, the Solar Expansion of Distributed Energy Exponentially Act, legislation that promotes investment in small scale distributed distributed general solar projects and ensures growth in the industry.

Putting us on the Path to 100% Renewable Energy by 2050

Jared joined Senator Bernie Sanders in introducing H.R. 3314, the 100 by ‘50 Act, which would put the United States on the path towards being 100 percent powered by renewable energy by 2050. As governor, Jared has a plan to get Colorado there by 2040.

Defended President Obama’s Rules on Methane

With President Trump intent on rolling back President Obama’s rule on methane, which was modeled after Colorado’s own methane laws, we need champions at the state-level. Jared will protect and defend Colorado’s progress.

Closing Loopholes for Oil and Gas in the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts

Jared has introduced H.R. 2059, the Bringing Reductions to Energy’s Airborne Toxic Health Effects (BREATHE) and the Focused Reduction of Effluence and Stormwater runoff through Hydraulic Environmental Regulation Acts in each Congress. These bills would close loopholes for oil and gas in the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts to account for fracking’s impact on our environment.

Led Efforts to Cut Fossil Fuel Subsidies

Jared believes we should prioritize development of renewable energy that creates jobs without harming the environment. That’s why he has passed an amendment supported by Democrats and Republicans to remove $25 million worth of subsidies for oil shale in the federal budget.

Introduced Bipartisan Legislation to Fund Public Land Maintenance

Our public lands are important to our Colorado way of life. H.R. 5084 would give citizens that maintain our federal lands peace of mind that they’ll funding to fulfill our commitment to rural counties that rely on outdoor spaces to thrive. Jared has recruited Democrats and Republicans to this cause.

Preserved the Sage Grouse’s Natural Habitat

Jared has worked with environmentalists, ranchers, and sportsmen and sportswomen to protect Sage Grouse habitat. In Congress, Jared put his name behind amendments and guest-chaired committee hearings on this issue important to Western Colorado.
