Pipefitters Local 208 announced today their endorsement of Jared Polis for Colorado’s next governor. Pipefitters Local 208 is the largest local union affiliated with the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters International Union in Colorado, representing approximately 1,800 skilled tradespersons in the state.
Pipefitters Local 208 will immediately begin mobilizing their members to support Jared in the March 6 Democratic Party Caucuses.
“We are very excited to announce our endorsement of Jared Polis for governor,” said Pipefitters Local 208 Business Manager Gary Arnold. “Jared has a long history in partnering with Pipefitters Local 208 to protect workers’ rights, fight for a livable wage, support project labor agreements, and improve our state’s infrastructure. His bold vision to build a Colorado economy that works for everyone is refreshing, and we are ready to stand strongly behind him to help him make that vision a reality.”
“I am incredibly honored to earn the support of Pipefitters Local 208,” said Jared Polis. “For too many working families in Colorado, wages have stayed stagnant while the cost of living has skyrocketed. As governor, I want to build an economy where working Coloradans don’t just exist but actually get ahead, buy homes, afford health care, and save for retirement.
“To achieve these goals, we need a stronger labor movement in Colorado, and Local 208 shares our vision. They exemplify the best in training and commitment to expanding economic opportunity through their excellent apprenticeship program. I am proud to work with members of the Local 208 to move Colorado forward,” Polis said.
The Pipefitters Local 208 and Colorado’s International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), two of the largest construction trades unions in the state, have now both thrown their support behind Jared. Last week, more than 40 Latino elected and community leaders also endorsed Jared in the race.
